I have always had quite a chaotic life; I am a mother of three with two children having special needs. Menopause has led me to feel that I no longer have much control over myself and feel that I am no longer strong enough to support my family. I initially tried to get to my NHS GP about my symptoms, specifically my struggle with anxiety. That process was challenging as I couldn't get hold of anyone for a long time; I began to feel like a burden and a pain. When I eventually did, I received irregular phone calls with no set times, which started to cause me more stress while working and trying to sort out family life at home.
This resulted in me paying to see a private doctor about my symptoms. She was very good at diagnosing my symptoms and recommended that I use testosterone to increase libido and help with brain fog. I then took this prescription to my NHS GP to try and save money. My NHS doctor argued with my private doctor, saying I shouldn't be put on the private doctor's recommendations as I am only 46. I have been in the middle of this argument since, and this has caused me even more anxiety and stress, so I still pay for my prescriptions.
I have been attending the Communitea cafe group for menopause, which is how I found out about Salus's workshop. It opened my eyes to more holistic ways to tackle my symptoms. I learnt so much knowledge and information from attending the workshop and found it very valuable and interesting. I have started sharing some of my knowledge with friends who could not participate in the event and now also wish to attend at a later date. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the delivery was incredibly informative. I absolutely loved the workbook and goodie bag that they provided. I haven't had chance to use the booklet yet, but I have got it out ready to start after summer. I would also like to start attending some of the other walks that Salus offers. I also feel more confident about returning to my NHS GP since attending the workshop, as I have gained more knowledge.
I am delighted with Salus and their services so far and look forward to attending more of what they offer. I have joined their peer support Facebook group and look forward to being part of another wonderful community.
